RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team closed out 2018 with a big victory over Nebraska Christian, 65-32, during an non-conference matchup Monday afternoon at the King Center in Rapid City.
The Lady 'Rockers took control early and never trailed in the game. SD Mines outscored the Sentinels, 12-4, in the first quarter and then put up 21 points in the second stanza while the visitors posted 12 markers. SD Mines went into halftime up, 33-16.
The third quarter saw fewer points, with the 'Rockers outscoring Nebraska, 9-5, but then poured it on over the final 10 minutes bettering NC, 23-11.
The 'Rockers finished the game shooting 37.9 percent from the field, connecting on 25-66 attempts, including eight from behind the arch and a 7-13 performance from the free throw line. The 'Rockers collected 46 rebounds, recorded 17 assists, nine steals and had one block.
The Sentinals made good on 13-52 attempts to shoot 25 percent on the night, including 2-11 from three-point range. They also cashed in on 4-6 from the foul line.
The Hardrockers were paced by
Cooper Courtney with 13 points, two recbounds, three assists and one steal. She hit three from behind the arch and was 2-2 on free throws.
Melissa Johnstone also had a good outing with 10 points, five rebounds and one steal.
Taylor Molstad added nine markers while
Anna Combalia and
Ryan Weiss both contributed with eight points each.
