ALAMOSA, Colo. --- A five-minute scoring drought in the second half along with a red hot opposing shooter on the perimeter sunk the South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team Sunday evening during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup against Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, as the Grizzlies defeated the Hardrockers, 75-61.
Adams State's Davere Creighton unleashed a perimeter assault on the Hardrockers scoring six of his nine three-pointers in the first 20 minutes and closing out the game with 33 points.
SD Mines was able to survive a first-half long range shelling and went into halftime down by just two markers, 38-36.
Creighton again got hot in the second half for Adams State with three consecutive buckets from behind the arch and when the dust settled, SD Mines trailed eight points at the 13:33 mark, 51-43.
The 'Rockers were able to regroup and a scoring surge got them back to within one point at the 11:54 mark, 51-50. That's where things slowed for SD Mines as they would not score another basket until just under six minutes remaining in the game.
In that srtetch, ASU went on a 13-0 run. SD Mines could not claw their way out of the hole and fell to their RMAC foes.
The Hardrockers shot 41.1 percent from the field, making good on 23-56 attempts and were 7-6 from behind the arch and converted 8-9 from the free throw line. SD Mines collected 32 rebounds, 12 assists, eight steals and three blocks.
The Grizzlies ended the game shooting 44.2 percent hitting 23-52, were 11-22 from three-point land and were 18-23 from the foul line.
Mitchell Sueker led the Hardrockers with 16 points, four rebounds and one assist.
Troy Brady added 11 points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist. Damini Hayes and
Logan Elers both contributed with 10 points each.
