Lady Mavericks Come Away With RMAC Win Over SD Mines, 75-60

 
 
 
Senior Ma'ata Epenisa recorded her first career double-double and helped the Colorado Mesa women's basketball team to a 75-60 win over the visiting South Dakota Mines Hardrockers on Saturday evening in Brownson Arena.
 
The Magna, Utah native scored a season-high 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the field and shot 80 percent (4-for-5) from the free-throw line. She completed the double-double by hauling in a career-high 10 rebounds. She also was a stalwart on defense by recording three blocks.
 
The Mavericks had the inside-outside game working as Erin Reichle and Jaylyn Duran each lit it up from outside. Duran finished the game with 20 points and four assists. She was 7-for-20 from the field and 6-for-13 from beyond the three-point line.
 
Reichle had 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and 2-for-4 from three. The senior added six assists and moved into fourth place on the all-time assists chart, passing Maverick legend Pam DeCosta.
 
The Mavericks as a team shot 53.7 percent from the field which was the first time they shot better than 50 percent since December 9 against Adams State.
The Lady Hardrockers shot 41.2 percent in the game, cashing in n 21-51 attempts. The visitors were 10-25 from three-point range and converted 8-10 from the free throw line. SD Mines came down with 28 rebounds, recorded 12 assists and five assists.
 
The Hardrockers were led in scoring by sophomore Sami Steffeck with 13 points while fellow sophomore Cooper Courtney contributed with 11 markers and freshman Ryan Weiss, sophomore Anna Haugen and sophomore Molly McCabe all cashed in for eight points.
 
The Mavericks improved their record to 16-5 on the season and 10-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while South Dakota Mines falls to 13-8 on the season and 8-7 in the conference.
 
Colorado Mesa will head up to Gunnison on Tuesday to take on the Western State Mountaineers at 5:30pm. The Lady 'Rockers are back in Colorado Friday traveling to Colorado Springs to challenge UCCS.
