Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team may have taken out a little frustration on Black Hills State Saturday evening as the Hardrockers defeated the Yellow Jackets in convincing fashion, 78-59, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup at the Young Center in Spearfish which stopped a five-game skid for the 'Rockers.
SD Mines got things going earl playing very well on the offensive end and had a stiff defense kept BHSU off balance all game.
SD Mines went into halftime with a 40-31 advantage and then turned up the heat to start the second half. The Hardrockers kept their intensity over the final 20 minutes and extended the edge and led by as many as 28 with just over three and a half minutes to play. SD Mines posted 38 points in the second half while the Yellow Jackets managed 28.
SD Mines finished the game making good on 29-55 attempts to shoot 53 percent from the field (8-18 from the three-point line) and were 12-21 from the free throw line. They added 33 rebounds, 13 assists, seven steals and one block.
The Yellow Jackets finished the game shooting 42 percent hitting 22-52 shots (6-22 from the three point line) and were 9-12 from the free throw line. They grabbed 29 rebounds, 12 assists, three steals and two blocks.
Individually for the Hardrockers, senior
Konor Kulas had an outstanding game with 27 point, nine rebounds, one assist and one block. Freshman
Jake Heath also played well with 17 points, two assists and one steal while senior
Marco Pascolo added 12 markers, six rebounds, two assists and one steal.
The win improves SD Mines to 11-14 on the season and 7-12 in the conference and will next see action Saturday in Gunnison, Colo., against Western State Colorado University at 7 p.m.
