2nd Half Surge Lifts Lady 'Rockers Over UCCS, 65-38

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team used a second-half scoring surge to defeat the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, 65-38, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D.

After a 28-28 halftime tie, the Hardrockers unleashed a furious offensive attack, outscoring the Mountain Lions, 37-10.

For the game the Hardrockers shot 41.3 percent from the field making good on 26-63, including 10-27 from three-point range and 3-5 from the free throw line. UCCS was 15-60 from the field to shoot 25 percent in the game, including 4-28 from three-point range and 4-11 from the foul line.

The Lady 'Rockers collected 44 rebounds, 17 assists, five steals and one block while The Mountain Lions came down with 33 rebounds, five assists, six steals and two blocks.

Individually for SD Mines, sophomore Anna Haugen had an outstanding performance with a double-double cashing in for 15 points and recorded 20 rebounds and two assists. Fellow sophomore Sami Steffeck was a great compliment on the outside, connecting on 4-7 three-point goals to score 14 points. Junior Taylor Molstad contributed with 13 points and Krista Showalter added six points and six assists.

The win elevated the Hardrockers to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in RMAC play. Next up, SD Mines head to Colorado next weekend to take on Colorado Christian and the Colorado School of Mines.
