RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team is going into the Christmas Break on the right foot after defeating the Nebraska Christian College, 92-36, Monday night during a non-conference game at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D.
The Lady Hardrockers led wire-to-wire, leading 20-4 after the first quarter and then went on a 29-6 run in the second period and went into halftime up by 39 points, 49-10. It was more of the same in the second half as the home team bettered the Lady Sentinels, 43-26.
The Hardrockers were firing on all cylinders, shooting 47.3 percent during the game making good on 35-74 attempts, including a 13-33 showing from the three-point line and 9-12 on free throws. SD Mines collected 46 rebounds (18 offensive), recorded 24 assists and 15 steals.
Nebraska Christian finished the game converting 14-50 attempts for 28 percent from the field. The visitors added 19 rebounds, four assists, four steals and five blocks.
The Lady 'Rockers had five players reach double figures in the bout. Freshman
Ryan Weiss led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds while junior
Jessica Lohrenz and senior
Payton Humpal tacked on 12 markers each and junior
Taylor Molstad and freshman
Michaela Shaklee each posted 11 points.
The win elevates SD Mines to 8-4 overall and will take a couple weeks off before getting back into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Dec. 30 when New Mexico Highlands comes to town.
