SPEARFISH, S.D. --- In a match of momentum swings, it was an exciting evening for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball as the South Dakota School of Mines challenged Black Hills State at the Young Center in Spearfish, S.D.
It was the equivalent to a tug-of-war contest with whoever could get the momentum in their favor down the stretch was going to come away victorious. Unfortunately for the Hardrockers, the Yellow Jackets found the edge down the stretch to take out their long-time rivals, 3-2.
BHSU defeated the Lady Hardrockers, 26-28, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, 15-6. SD Mines closed out the match with 52 kills and had a .063 hitting percentage. They collected 50 assists, four aces, 98 digs and four total blocks. The Jackets came away with 54 kills and .168 hitting percentage along with 52 assists, five aces, 104 digs and 10 total blocks.
Individually for the 'Rockers, senior
Mikkella Reese led her team with 16 kills and had a .103 hitting percentage along with a team high 28 digs while junior
Anna Breidt closed out the match with 13 kills and had a .178 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Allie Boggs was responsible for 43 of the team's 50 assists and collected 14 digs on the night. Junior
Alye Wagner had 23 digs, while freshmen
Tana Dahlberg and
Emma Boeke both tallied 12 digs.
The loss drops SD Mines to 3-24 on the season and 1-15 in conference play with just one match remaining on the schedule --- a trip to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take on UCCS in a 5 p.m. match on Saturday.
