Hardrocker Volleyball Team Returns To King Center For Home Stand

RAPID CITY, .S.D. -- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team is looking to make good on a four game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference home stretch starting this weekend at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D. The Hardrockers return the friendly confines of the King Center after playing six of the last seven matches on the road.
 
SD Mines remains in the middle of the hunt in many of the statistical categories. The Hardrockers are fifth in digs (741/15.77) and eighth in blocks (92/1.96).
 
Individually, freshman Lily Lundquist cracked the top 8 in blocks with 28 and averaging one per set. The Rockers' have four players that have scored over 100 points on the season with senior Mikkella Reese leading the way with 225 points, senior Emily Newton has 195 points, Anna Breidt has 172.5 and Caryn Hazard has tallied 122.5 points.
 
Defensively the Lady 'Rockers are getting solid production from several players. Leading the team in digs is junior Alye Wagner with 274, followed by Reese with 239, sophomore Allie Brown with 138, freshman Tana Dahlberg with 123, and freshman Emma Eckel with 105.
 
The Hardrockers' first pairing comes on Friday during Cancer Awareness night at Goodell Gymnasium against MSU Denver in a 7 p.m. (MST) match while Saturday's home contest pits the 'Rockers against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions at 5 p.m. (MST).
 
Friday's match will surely be a challenge task for the Lady 'Rockers as MSU Denver is currently the No. 3 team in the RMAC latest standings with a 14-7 (11-2 in the RMAC).
The Roadrunners are led by Santaisha Sturges who is the conference leader in Kills/Avg/S (207 total and 4.22). Stephanie Laraway for MSU Denver is second in the RMAC in hitting percentage (.415). The Hardrockers will want to be warry of the Roadrunners servers as they have three in the Top 10 for Service Aces: Jackie Lopez (20), Lyric Hebert (16), and Sturges (15).
 
Saturday, the Lady 'Rockers will matchup against the UCCS Mountain Lions (11-9, 8-4), a team that is one of the best the RMAC for team statistics. They are second in assists AVG/S (13.38) and third in kills AVG/S (14.26). Players to keep an eye on are: Alyssa Brinton (169 kills) and Raelynn Edge (506 assists).
