ASU Grizzlies Deny SD Mines Netters, 3-0

Box Score RAPDI CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team had a tough go of it Saturday afternoon as the Lady Hardrockers fell to a talented Adams State University squad, 3-0, at the King Center in Rapid City during Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

The Grizzlies were coming off a fresh win over BHSU from Friday evening, 3-1, while SD Mines dropped their second straight RMAC matchup after blanking Dickinson State Tuesday. The Hardrockers came up short Friday to Fort Lewis College, 3-1.

Adams State defeated the Lady Hardrockers, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12. SD Mines came away with 27 kills in the match and went 75-91 on the attack and collected 28 assists, recorded 30 digs and had two total blocks. The Grizzlies fired off 43 kills and went 82-86 on the attack to go along with 40 assists, 43 digs and 15 blocks.

We had plenty of good moments in the first set. We make a couple more plays and we might have taken it," Tabbert said. "After that the challenge for us was consistency. We made plays and then we struggled to make plays so we just couldn't get anything going. They deserve credit—Mallory Grimsrud is a significant challenge to deal with and Hannah Atkinson is a very efficient player. Then a couple other players got heated up down the stretch and it was a lot for us to overcome.  On the bright side, our serve receive was very good at times and showed promise for what it can be in the future."

Individually for the Hardrockers, freshman Caryn Hazard posted nine kills while going 16-18 on the attack and notched three digs. Sophomore Anna Breidt contributed with six kills and was 10-12 on the attack and came up with one block. Freshman Hannah Stevenson added five kills on the night as well.

"Having a freshman outside hitter go at a .389 clip when one of the best blockers in the conference is in the opposing front row at the same time was also encouraging," Tabbert said. "Caryn showed some of the things that make us very excited about what she can do going forward."

SD Mines freshman Allie Boggs paced the 'Rockers with 17 assists while sophomore Elizabeth Jensen added nine to go along with three digs.  Freshman Makinze Maiden posted 10 digs to lead SD Mines.

The loss drops SD Mines to 1-10 on the season and will next see action Friday in New Mexico Highlands followed by a visit to CSU-Pueblo on Saturday.
