Box Score RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team looked sharp Tuesday night as the Lady Hardrockers shutout the Dickinson State Blue Hawks (N.D.), 3-0, during a nonconference bout at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D.
Tuesday's match was the first home event of the season for the SD Mines netters and marked the first win on the season for the young squad.
The Hardrockers defeated Dickinson State, 25-13, 25-18, 25-22.
SD Mines tallied 36 kills on the night and was 81-101 on the attack with 32 assists, 55 digs and 7 total blocks. Dickinson State had just 20 kills while going 75-101 on the attack with 15 assist, 44 digs and 11 total blocks.
It was a group effort for the Hardrockers. Freshman
Caryn Hazard paced SD Mines with nine kills and was 32-38 on the attack and also came up with 11 digs. Sophomore
Anna Breidt, junior
Emily Newton and sophomore Justine Langus all contributed with six kills each. Sophomore
Elizabeth Jensen put up 18 assists while freshman
Allie Boggs notched 11 and freshman Makinze Maiden led the team with 14 digs.
The win gives SD Mines a 1-8 record on the season as the Hardrockers begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this weekend playing host to Fort Lewis College Friday at 7 p.m. followed by Adams State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
