Rangers Round Up Win Over Lady 'Rockers

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team ran into a red hot shooting Regis University Rangers squad Saturday afternoon and drop a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup, 70-41, to close out the Lady Hardrockers four-game home stand at the King Center in Rapid City.

The Hardrockers hung tough over the first 10 minutes, knotting the game at 9-9 after the first quarter, but the Lady Rangers outscored the home team, 25-8, in the second period to go into halftime up, 34-17. Regis rattled off 21 more points in the third quarter, while SD Mines put in 12 markers, heading into the final frame, 55-29. The visitors outscored the Hardrockers, 15-12 down the stretch.

SD Mines also got bit by the flu bug this week and a few key players were missing from the lineup.

The biggest highlight of the night was SD Mines senior Megan Rohrer breaching the 1,000-point mark during her career as a Hardrocker. The Greenwood Village, Colo., native becomes the 26th women's basketball player to accomplish this feat at SD Mines.

The Hardrockers shot 28 percent from the field Saturday, hitting on 14-51 shots, including five three-point goals and were 8-12 from the free throw line. SD Mines had 20 rebounds, eight assists, nine steals and one block.

The Rangers converted 25-58 shots from the field, including eight three-pointers and were a perfect 12-12 from the foul line. Regis had 40 rebounds, 12 assists and eight steals.

Individually for the Hardrockers, senior Heather Rogers led the team with 10 points. Rohrer along with sophomore Marissa Hirchert and freshmen Molly McCabe and Anna Haugen all contributed with eight points. McCabe had eight rebounds to lead the team.

The loss drops SD Mines to 3-8 on the season and 1-5 in RMAC play. The Hardrockers have a little time off and won't get back to action until Dec. 30 on the road against New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M.
