KINGSVILLE, Texas – The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team struggled down the stretch and couldn't regroup in time as Texas A&M – Kingsville defeated the Hardrockers, 72-62, Saturday night in Kingsville, Texas, during a non-conference matchup.
The game was knotted at 28-28 after the first half. Texas A&M outscored the Hardrockers 44-34 in the second half. SD Mines finished shooting 37 percent from the field hitting 23-63 shots including six three-pointers. The 'Rockers converted 10-16 from the foul line and came down with 48 rebounds, 10 assists, three steals and two blocks.
Texas A&M shot 34 percent making good on 22-64 attempts, including nine three pointers, made 19-24 from the free throw line, had 39 rebounds, 11 assists, three blocks and nine steals.
Individually for the Hardrockers,
Konor Kulas again had a solid outing with his first double-double of the season, collecting 20 points and 12 rebounds. He also had three assists and a block. Junior
Brian Orr also played with 15 points, an assist and a steal and senior
Jamall Taylor cashed in for 11 points.
The loss drops SD Mines to 0-2 on the season and will be back home Friday to take on Grace University of Nebraska at 6 p.m., followed by a game against Johnson and Wales on Saturday at 4 p.m.
