No. 6 Augie Vikings conquer Lady 'Rockers, 3-0

Box Score RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The No. 6 ranked Augustana University Vikings volleyball team rolled into Rapid City Tuesday evening to take on South Dakota School of Mines in a non-conference match at Goodell Gymnasium where the national ranked NCAA Div. II Sioux Falls, S.D., squad downed the Lady Hardrockers, 3-0.

The Vikings defeated SD Mines, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20. The Hardrockers finished the match with 26 kills and went 77-90 on the attack and tallied 24 assists, 33 digs and eight blocks. Augustana went 81-93 on the attack and notched 47 kills, 41 assists, 47 digs and six total blocks.

"They certainly present some challenges and they rolled pretty well offensively," said Hardrocker volleyball head coach Doug Tabbert. "At the same time, we were too inconsistent during the first two sets before we settled in a bit during the third.

Individually for SD Mines, junior Emily was 17-19 on the attack with eight kills and sophomore Darla Drenckhahn recorded six kills and was 21-22 on the attack. Freshman Allie Bogs came away with 10 assists and sophomore Elizabeth Jensen added eight while freshman Allie Brown earned 10 digs for the Hardrockers.

"We did have some positives," Tabbert said. "Emily and Anna (Breidt) continued their recent trend of efficient offense.  Darla had some success in the front row as well and she's playing a position that she has very limited experience with. Several of our freshmen did some nice things as well, so there are things to be encouraged about.  We need more consistency and the sooner we get it, the quicker we'll take another step."

The loss drops SD Mines to 1-16 on the season and will get back into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition this weekend taking on Chadron State College Friday in a 7 p.m. match followed by a bout with Regis University Saturday at 3 p.m.
