Emily Olson is in her first year with South Dakota Mines after being hired in August of 2023 and coaches the jumps, multis and hurdle event groups.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • Emily Olson was hired as an assistant coach at South Dakota Mines in 2023 as the jumps, hurdles and multis coach. 
  • In her first year, Olson contributed to the success of several different athletes in the indoor and outdoor seasons. 
  • Sawyer Nelson set a school record in the indoor triple jump and a top 10 mark in the outdoor version of the event. 
  • In multi's, Olson coached Aidan Thompson to setting a school record in the decathlon, while Josie Byrne and Abby Krumpus had top 5 marks in the pentathlon and heptathlon.
  • Four student-athletes earned all-conference selections under Olson's direction in 2023-24. 
  • Prior to South Dakota Mines, Olson began her coaching career at Black Hills State University as a graduate assistant from 2021-2023.
  • Olson competed in track & field and graduated from the University of Sioux Falls in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and graduated from Black Hills State in 2023 with a master's degree in strategic leadership.
