Tye Roy

Tye Roy has been promoted to the Director of the men’s and women’s golf programs starting in the 2018-19 season.

“I feel truly blessed to be in the position I am now and am very appreciative of Joel Lueken (SD Mines Athletics Director) and the Hardrocker Athletics Family for trusting me to take the reins of our entire golf program at SD Mines,” Roy said. “I have always been a strong advocate for the continued growth of both men's and women's golf, and know this opportunity gives me the chance to continue to grow and promote the game on a whole new level.”

Roy took over the Hardrocker men’s golf program at the start of the 2017-18 season. He came to SD Mines with a vast knowledge of the game, with experience at the PGA (Professional Golf Association), amateur, and high school levels and adds a year’s worth of experience in the highly competitive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at the NCAA Div. II level.

“Coach Roy has done an exceptional job with the men’s golf program over the past 12 months,” said Hardrocker Athletics Director Joel Lueken. “His passion for golf and his determination that our scholar-athletes are successful in the classroom and on the golf course are reasons No. 1 and No. 2 why he is a great fit at South Dakota Mines.”

Roy will now oversee both the men’s and women’s programs as well as hire an assistant coach to help with both teams.

“We have some outstanding young scholar-athletes in both our programs, some outstanding recruits joining our programs this fall, and I am truly excited to see what the future will bring for Hardrocker Golf,” Roy said. “I look forward to this next challenge.”

Roy has been a mentor to the game since 1995 where he began as a PGA assistant golf professional at Yellowstone Country Club in Billings, Mont. Previous to Roy’s time in Billings, he served as the boys’ and girls’ head coach in Teton County School District in Jackson, Wyo., and served as the assistant golf professional at Teton Pines Resort and Country Club (Wyo.).

Roy has his bachelor’s of science degree in Business Administration from the University of Wyoming.
