Two Male Golfers Earn GCAA Academic Honors

NORMAN, Okla. --- A pair of male golfers from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology were named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar team announced on Thursday morning. 
 
Bryce Howard and Joseph Vincent were the Hardrockers to earn recognition.
 
On the course, Howard had a great career as a Hardrocker, sitting at or near the top in several areas in the record books. This season he competed in 8 tournaments with an average of 75.15. He placed in the top 10 twice, including an individual win in the Hardrocker Invite in the spring. In addition, he recorded four more top-30 finishes.
 
Vincent is also near or at the top in several individual all-time categories and will be returning for the 2022-23 seasons. Vincent also played in eight tournaments, with an average score of 75.86, placing in the top-5 twice and recording another top-30 finish.
 
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
 
Howard, a 2022 graduate carried a 3.551 cumulative GPA but had a 4.0 in his last two semesters to finish out his time as a Hardrocker student-athlete. He was a mechanical engineering major and has since begun working in Technical Service for a company in Wisconsin.
 
Vincent, heading into his junior season recorded a 3.214 GPA in the spring and a 3.6 GPA in the fall as a biomedical engineering major.

Established in 1958, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) is the professional organization of men's collegiate golf coaches.
