DENVER, COLO. --- The South Dakota Mines golf teams wrapped up their first tournament of the 2021 fall season in Denver yesterday.

The men finished 11th out of the 14-team field in The Writz Classic with a three-round score of 909 (300,308,301). Host team Colorado Christian won the tournament with a total of 867.

The women placed 16th in the 19-team field in The Swan Memorial with a three-round score of 1034 (352,334,348). The University of Colorado Colorado Springs won the tournament with a total of 924.

"We played well for the first time out," said head coach
Luke Wheeler. "Both courses we played were very tough and I thought they did a great job."

Seniors
Bryce Howard (75,76,76) and
Lane Jensen (77,78,72) were the low totals for the Hardrockers each shooting 227 for three rounds. Jake Doggett from Midwestern State Texas won the tournament in a four-hole playoff with a total of 212. Sophomore
Joseph Vincent shot 230 (73,79,78), Juniors
Jake Francis 235 (75,85,75) and
Roger Nakagawa 241 (83,75,83) rounded out the team for the Hardrockers.
Alex Lesselyoung was playing as an individual and shot 267 (90,88,89).

The women were led by Sophomore
Annika Schooler (T34th) with a three-round total of 244 (82,77,85). Julia Baroth from UCCS won the tournament with a score of 216. Sophomores
Rianna Garland shot 250 (87,80,83) and
Mya Maxwell shot 262 (88,84,90). Senior
Abby Magee finished with a 278 (95,93,90) and
Jessalyn Shipp carded a 297 (98,103,96). The Hardrockers had three players playing as individuals. They were freshmen
Portia Lenczowski 280 (108, 83, 89);
Lora Ortega 288 (99, 99, 90); and
Julia Sabetti 289 (102, 93,94).

The Rockers will be back on the course this coming Monday and Tuesday as they Host the Fall Hardrocker Invite at the Golf Club at Red Rocks. Both days will be shotgun starts starting at 9:00 am.
