XC Squads Head To Nebraska For Saturday Races

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines men's and women's cross country teams will compete in its second meet of the season Saturday as the Hardrocker travel to Nebraska to race in the Chadron State Open.

"This will be a real interesting meet for the Hardrockers," said Hardrocker cross country head coach Steve Johnson during a press conference last week. "Chadron ran down in Colorado Springs (Sept. 19) and this race will give us a chance to see how we stack up against them head-to-head."

During the first meet of the season, the Hardrockers ran against Black Hills State during the Gage McSpadden Memorial Meet at Spearfish Canyon Country Club. The SD Mines men won the 8K race, edging BHSU, 27-28. The women were also very competitive, but ended the 6K race in second place to the Yellow Jackets, 11-14.

"The men and women both ran well at the BHSU Meet," Johnson said. "For many of our women this was their first 6k and they got thrown onto one of the toughest courses in the RMAC to do it. I was really impressed with the fight they showed throughout the race."

On Saturday, the men's 8K race begins at 10 a.m. with the women's 5K race to follow at 10:45 a.m. The course begins on the CSC practice football field and transitions to buffalo grass trails. Multiple hills of varying grades are present. A lead cart will be present while no other vehicles may be present on the course.

CSC is requiring that all buses and spectators park at the designated bus and spectator parking (no fee) –east of the softball field (mandatory parking area).
