LAKEWOOD, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's golf team sits in ninth place after the first day of the Bob Writz Men's Golf Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Course in Lakewood, Colorado.
The Orediggers shot a team 300 (+12) to sit two strokes off the lead pace set by CSU-Pueblo. Colorado Mesa is seven strokes back in third (307, +19), with the University of Tampa fourth at 309 (+21). The 'Rockers tallied a team score of 338.
Highlighted by a hole-in-one, Tim Amundson of Colorado School of Mines is second with a one-under 71, just one shot behind Colorado's John Paterson. The defending medalist holed out on the 173-yard 13th for an eagle to finish with a rare under-par round at Bear Creek, which is consistently rated among Colorado's most difficult courses.
SD Mines lowest score was carded by
Roger Nakagawa, who carded an 18-hole score of 77 and tied for 19th place,
Jake Francis took a share of 39th place after posting a score of 80, and
Carson McDaniel tied for 51st place with an 83.
As for the rest of the Hardrocker golfers:
Lane Jensen tied for 56th with an 85,
Bryce Howard was three spots back in a tie for 59th place after carding an 86,
Ben Unruh shared and
Steven Bendt both put up scores of 87 and tied for 61st place.
